This paper gives an overview of the energy situation and policy frameworks of the Mano River Union (MRU) member states Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire.

By outlining the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the states’ energy sectors and setting national and international energy initiatives and projects into the context of energy access, this publication makes the case for decentralised renewable energy. It further provides a range of recommendations for policymakers and investors to harness the manifold benefits of renewables.

The paper is part of ongoing cooperation between the Global Renewables Congress and The Energy Network Nexus on advancing Renewable Energy in the MRU region and aims to provide background information.
