Renewable Energy in Tanzania: A Conversation with MP Jackson Kiswaga

The GRC Team interviewed Jackson Gedion Kiswaga, Member of Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, as part of the Renewables Diplomacy Initiative in Abu Dhabi. Hon. Kiswaga, a strong advocate for renewable energy development, shared valuable insights on Tanzania’s energy transition, including the rapid expansion of solar energy and the challenges posed by costly feasibility studies. We discussed the country’s ambitious goal of achieving 80% renewable energy access for households, as well as key financial and policy measures to attract investment. Hon. Kiswaga highlighted Tanzania’s new energy act, which enables private investors to produce and sell electricity, creating a more competitive market. He also emphasised the role of parliamentarians in fostering dialogue between policymakers and the private sector to streamline project approvals and enhance regulatory efficiency. As Tanzania advances its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), MP Kiswaga reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strong climate policies, international collaboration, and a sustainable energy future.
